Abstract

The advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has opened new horizons in Islamic education and da‘wah, particularly in sustaining the art of Tarannum al-Qur’an, which embodies deep spiritual and aesthetic values. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which AI can serve as a medium for Islamic da‘wah through the art of tarannum, and to analyse the ethical and shariah compliance challenges in its application for Qur’anic education and da‘wah purposes. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA 2020 protocol, twenty peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2016 and 2025 were thematically analysed. The analysis was conducted using Mendeley and Microsoft Excel software to assess study quality based on six criteria (QA1–QA6). The synthesis reveals that AI contributes significantly to improving the accuracy of Qur’anic recitation recognition and the development of digital teaching models. Nevertheless, the findings also highlight the necessity of integrating Islamic values and the ethics of recitation to ensure that AI does not become merely mechanistic. The study further indicates that ethical considerations and maqasid al-shariah aspects remain underexplored in the development of Islamic AI systems. In conclusion, AI holds great potential as a modern instrument of da‘wah grounded in the art of tarannum, but its implementation must be guided by shariah principles, sincerity, and moral responsibility. The study proposes the development of a Shariah-Compliant e-Tarannum AI Model as a future direction to ensure that technology remains aligned with the spiritual essence and mission of Islamic da‘wah.
